“Um, I don’t think most people really care about cow breeds.”

Hey, everybody!  I need some contestants for the Cow Challenge that I sent out on Monday!  It’s going over like a lead balloon.  I was talking to Lefty (my left-handed, left-brained husband) about it last night.

“So I’ve got this cow challenge on my blog.  I’ve asked people to name as many cattle breeds as they can, on-the-fly, without looking it up on the ‘net.  But I’m getting zero comments!”

He said, “Um, I don’t think most people really care about cow breeds.”

What?! Not care about cows?

“Well,” he reasoned, “Take sheep, for example.  How many sheep breeds can you name?”

“Hm.  I don’t know. White sheep?  Black sheep…?”

“So there you go.”

“Can you name any cattle breeds?” I challenged.

He thought for a minute. “Filet mignon, steak, shepherd’s pie….”

Okay, so the guy has a point.  But I’m still issuing the challenge.  How many cattle breeds can you list?

  1. My daddy always had cows when I was growing up, so you would think I would know more, but all I could think of was Angus (from commercials about beef) and we usually had Jersey and black cows with white faces which we simply referred to as white face. Now you got me to wondering what they really are!
