Join Me on a Blind Date with a Book

At the library.
At the library.

The other day, I went to our local library and loaded my little paisley “31” bag full of books to check out.

I was scanning the new arrivals stack when I saw a flier announcing the library’s “Blind Date with a Book.” Intrigued, I went to the circulation desk to ask about it.

The nicest lady, Amanda, helped me out. Her enthusiasm for the program was contagious, especially when she led me over to a circular of books wrapped in brown paper packages with jute ribbon.

So here’s the deal: I get to open my package and read the mystery book. (Mystery, in that I have few clues as to which book it will be.) I read the book and then fill out the bookmark for a chance to win a gift certificate. Yahoo-ee!

The clues that made me grab the book is that it sounds like the book is either out of print, or the author is deceased.

Okay, well here goes…I’m ready to open the mystery book.

Yikes! It’s Stiff by Mary Roach! Okay, well, we’ll see how this goes. It’s not what I’d actually select for myself; Although I’ve heard that Roach is humorous, I understand that she’s also a bit graphic.

But a blind date is a blind date! I’ll let you know I like it!

By the way, what type of books do you all like to read?

Morbid non-fiction in my future.

  1. LOVED Stiff! I read it on an airplane, which may not have been a good idea in retrospect. Hope you enjoy it. I need to check out this program.
