It’s Valentine’s Day and I ain’t got Nobody…

Poor Charlie Brown.

He never got anything for Valentine’s Day but a used card that the gang gave him to assuage their own guilt.

Valentine’s Day may be great fun if you’ve got a sweetheart, but what if you’re like Charlie Brown and (like the song says) ain’t got nobody?

First of all, try not to worry about all the hype. Second, be good to yourself.

Here are some things that I’ve read from the blogosphere that seem like good ideas.

Tips for Weathering Valentine’s Day:

1. Do something nice for yourself such as send yourself some flowers. (Arlin Cuncic of www.Verywell.com)

2. Do something nice for someone else. Maybe you can visit a shut-in and take them a valentine. They are sure to love it!

3. Go for a friend’s night out with other singles. (Cuncic)

4. Curl up with a good book. (Rebekah of  More Radiance)

5. Babysit for free for a couple who can’t afford it. (Rebekah)

6. Send flowers to another single, anonymously. (Rebekah)

All of these are great ideas.

What do you advise a single for weathering V-Day?

  1. My suggestions: Put a valentine in the mailbox for your mail carrier. As you go through the drive-thru, give the fast-food employees a bag of individually wrapped valentine candies to share. Pay it forward at the drive thru and give the attendant at the window a valentine card to give to the person behind you who will be recipient of your pay it forward.

    • Thanks for those ideas, Barbara.

I was just at Sallie’s Whistle Stop Sweet Shop in downtown Madison, buying gifts for 2 very special people in my life. (Shhhh, don’t tell!) 😉

The mail carrier came in and delivered the mail to Sallie. She gave them a Valentine’s Day cookie. I was so impressed with her kindness!

  2. Valentines can be really hard for some people…however my girlfriend Tia who is single always sends herself flowers, schedules a spa day followed by getting comfy with a nice book. She says it’s her time to love on herself…

  3. Some of the same thoughts as you…Don’t get caught up in all the hype!!

    Remember:

    Psa 118:24
This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

  4. I almost wore pink and my “love” shirt today… then decided not to. As a recovering teacher, it’s tempting to keep dressing for the holidays, but I didn’t want to be thinking about “singles awareness” all day! I had a great time out with my small group.

    • Yesterday, I wore a hunter green shirt that I had bought for Lefty. For some reason he didn’t like it. I love it. It’s so comfy.
