This past weekend, the life of another Hollywood star was snuffed out. This time it was the life of Erin Moran who was Richie Cunningham’s kid sister on Happy Days and Joanie on the spin-off, Joanie Loves Chachi.
Although I never was allowed to watch either of the shows because I was a kid, I always thought Erin’s smile was adorable, and she seemed so exuberant about life.
I am so sad to hear about her passing, and I hope that she has found peace at last. Because, according to news sources, the poor woman had a very tragic off-screen life.
I’m no expert, but it seems like so many actors lose their way when they achieve fame. It’s almost like they reach a status that comes with money, fame, and popularity that humans aren’t equipped to handle.
Rather than seeing themselves as entertainers, they seem to believe that the are idols.
On the other hand, the Bible talks about lives that are truly worth living.
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. (ESV, Biblegateway.com) John 10:10.”
“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world [wealth, fame, success], but forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? (AMP, Biblegateway.com) Matthew 16:26.”
Fame and fortune looks like a lot of fun, and the appeal is so strong, but I think I’ll take the simple life that Jesus offers. What about you?
Rest in peace, sweet Erin.
