Back in June 2016, my family moved into a house surrounded by dozens of sweet gum trees. We basically bought the place for the lot and location.
Since then, my husband, daughter, our two dogs, our fish, and our two guinea pigs have set about finding our place in our new community and enjoying our Sweet Gum Life in north Alabama.
I hope you, dear Readers, will enjoy my posts as I go about using my experience, skills, and intuition to figure out how to go from freelance obscurity to writing notability.
Notability, not as a famous-NY-Times-bestseller type, but as a sort of regular gal who has a nice following of readers. Regular gal, I can do.
“Life with a Little Alabama Twist.”
One of my favorite authors, Laura Ingalls Wilder, said, “Home is the nicest word there is.”
Being the nicest word there is, my Sweet Home page is all about making it the nicest place possible. Here, I’ll share posts on home decor, recipes, gardening, and anything else that has to do with making home the best place it can be.
Please allow me to take poetic liberties as I quote Goethe:
“[She] is happiest, be [she queen] or peasant, who finds peace in [her] home.”
Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. (Hebrews 11:1 – English Standard Version.) The Bible says that faith is a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul (Hebrews 6:19). In all of my years, this has proven true over and over again. I hope the posts in this category will also give you a measure of peace.
Stories abound in the southern United States, and southerners are the consummate storytellers. Sometimes I post fiction, and sometimes non-fiction. Many of my non-fiction, Once-Upon-a-Times begin, “When I was a girl, growing up in the blackbelt of rural south Alabama…”
As a writer, I can’t tell you how many Amazing People I run into each day. Of course, we know that all people who God created have something special about them. In this section, I plan to share posts about people that I know or have met that inspire me in some way. Look closely at those around you. I’ll betcha you’ll find something that makes them amazing!
Ages ago, I received a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in family studies from the University of Alabama. I guess I never got tired of writing all those papers on Family Life when in school, ’cause I’m still writing on the topic. In this section, I’ll draw from research, personal experience, and other sources to bring you interesting tips on making your family life the best it can possibly be. After all, family is the basis of living a Sweet Gum Life.
Pin it! I love creating things, don’t you? I especially like posting crafty things on Fridays because it’s the start of the two days that all of us get to spend more time together as a family! Sometimes my creations are Pinterest-worthy. Sometimes they are a flop! Regardless, it’s fun to do.
If you’ve read down this far, congratulations! I hope you’ll follow my humble little blog, and please be sure to let me know what you think! And be sure to follow Sweetgum Life on Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, and especially Instagram!
