Southern Accents Giveaway!

Here’s a chance to win a Southern Accents coaster, pencil, drink cozy, and 20% off coupon!

It’s a Southern Accents (SA) Architectural Antiques Giveaway!!!

In the Sweetgum Life Comment section, tell us what you’d most want to buy from Southern Accents…An old mantel, old church pews, doorknobs, a clawfoot tub, or something else maybe? (BTW, you can online shop at Southern Accents!)

Commenters’ names will be entered into a random drawing for all of these:  Southern Accents 20% off coupon, SA pencil, SA drink cozy, and an SA coaster. (See end of post for official rules.)

One of my favorite roadtrips is to take off to Cullman, Alabama in search of architectural treasures at Southern Accents.

The SA team goes all over the United States to find salvaged architectural items to sell at their huge warehouse at 308 Second Avenue SE in Cullman.

According to their brochure, Southern Accents “one of the South’s oldest and largest reclamation business” with a mission to “rescue, restore, repurpose and document architectural salvage of historical significance.” In 2012, they won the Heroes of the New South Award for being “keepers of our culture.”

Southern Accents was established in 1969 by Dr. Garian Gudger and is now being run by his son, Garian Gudger, Jr.

The business has been featured in Southern Living, Gargen & Gun, Coastal Living, and Veranda, to name a few.

Not to mention, I have blogged and about them and photo documented my visit on my own blog.

The folks at Southern Accents are the nicest people around, and they can tell you about the things that you see in their 40,000 square-foot showroom.

When you’re done there, be sure to visit their Wood Warehouse that’s just a short drive down the road. They have hand-hewn beams, barn wood, and…Shiplap! (Squeeeeee!!!!)

Is this the kind of pencil that builders use? Just curious.

Small Shops and Antiques

Maybe you’ve read my blogs about my parent’s store, “Jachin Grocery.” We basically sold everything that the big box stores sell but on a smaller scale. When Dad would come in from closing each day, Mom often would ask, “How was business?” Well, her habit rubbed off on me. I sometimes ask store managers about… Continue Reading

More Southern Accents

Hi, All! Today I’m publishing more of the pictures that I took on my visit to Southern Accents Architectural Antiques in Cullman, Alabama. I did all I could to try to remove the silly date without altering the integrity of the pictures too much. It’s an amateur mistake. I found an option on my camera… Continue Reading
